Also known as tropical grasslands, Savannas are a rolling grassland with shrubs and some isolated trees. Grasses in the savanna are known to grow in rather patchy, thick clumps.
The main types of vegetation in Savanna environments are grasses because due to the dry season, which lasts about half the year, it is difficult for trees to grow.
Some of the grasses that grow in the Savanna include:
- Rhodes grass
- Red Oats Grass
- Lemon Grass
- Bermuda Grass
Fun Fact: Bermuda Grass can grow up to TEN feet tall!
Some of the tress that grow in the Savanna include:
- Acacia tree
- Baobab tree
The Acacia tree is usually classified for it's umbrella shape. This tree is generally known to grow tall and flower at the very top. Only giraffes are able to reach these flowers
The Baobab tree can live up to 1000 years and can be up to 25 feet tall.
